If your roof has been damaged due to a severe storm, you need to get it fixed so that you don't end up with more damage to your house than there already is. There are things that you need to do so that you can get it fixed. If you don't do one, it may take longer to get your roof fixed than it could otherwise be. So, what should you do?

Homeowner's Insurance

The first thing you need to do is to talk to your homeowner's insurance company. You need to find out if the roof damage will be covered. The company may need to send an adjustor to your house to inspect the damage before anything happens. If there has been a lot of damage around your area, it may take a couple of days for the adjustor to get to your house. While waiting for the adjustor to come, you can start asking questions to get some other information you will need. You should ask if the insurance company has a roofing contractor that they prefer to work with, if you pay the roofers and get reimbursed or if the roofers send an invoice to the insurance company, and how many quotes the insurance company requires. Once you have all that information from the insurance company, you need to talk to a roofing contractor.

Quote

You need to contact some roofing contractors to get quotes on how much they will charge to repair or replace your roof. In general, you should get two or three quotes. That way, you can compare and contrast how much the contractors will charge. All the quotes should be in the same price range, but there will be some variation based on the contractor and their business. If you need approval from your homeowner's insurance before hiring a contractor, submit the quotes to them. When you find the quote you are happy with, talk to the contractor and schedule a start date for them to come do the work.

If your roof has been damaged, you need to get it fixed. There are steps you have to go through in order to get everything taken care of. If you miss a step, you may end up paying more than you expect to, or it may take longer for you to get your roof repaired than you would like. A good roofing contractor can help you with that.
